AS Pattern

This condition is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, which means both copies of the gene in each cell have mutations. The parents of an individual with an autosomal recessive condition each carry one copy of the mutated gene, but they typically do not show signs and symptoms of the condition. Sickle cell trait occurs when a child inherits a sickle cell gene from one parent and a normal hemoglobin gene from the other. Children with one sickle cell gene are carriers of sickle cell disease and have sickle cell trait. While they can pass the trait along to their children, sickle cell trait is not typically considered a disease.
If you or your child has sickle cell trait, you won’t generally experience any related health problems; however, you should be aware of some potential rare complications associated with this condition.
